Gambia: Govt to Make Farming a Business

The minister of agriculture, Omar Jallow, has said the focus of the new government is to rebuild the agriculture sector to make farming a commercial venture by making it competitive and rewarding as a business.

FACAN cries against agricultural export ban

The Federation of Agricultural Commodities Association of Nigeria (FACAN )has sent a passionate plea to the all concerned government quarters to take speedy action against the United Nation’s decision to ban any agricultural produce that is not bagged in a hydrocarbon-free bag so that the umbrella body for all the commodities association could embark on importing jute bags made of kenaf pending when they will be available in mass production in the country.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, has assured the management of Indorama Eleme Fertilizer Company Limited, of prompt evacuation of its products. The Minister gave the assurance shortly after a closed-door meeting with management of the company and some directors of his ministry during a facility tour of the company, recently.

It was fireworks, and flaks literary flew as the Chairman, Senate Committee on Agriculture, Abdullahi Adamu, condemned the system that delights in what he describes as ‘talk-shows’ without corresponding action that should have followed. He spoke recently in Abuja while delivering a good will message at the consultative forum on national farmers’ empowerment programme, organized by the Agric ministry and Eurobase Consult limited.

The just concluded 30th annual event of South West, Research Extension Farmers Input Linkage System (REFILS) with the theme “ Diversification and Sustainability of Agricultural Production: the role of mechanization” that took place at Institute for Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T), Ibadan had in attendance royal fathers, farmers, scientists, researchers, academia and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) at the input value chains who all out-rightly frowned at the governors and rich people in the zone for not investing  in agricultural development with reference to research and technologies transfer that may result in shortages just as scientists have described the last and previous years (On- Farm Adaptive Research)  OFAR and (Technology Review Meetings) TRM at all the states in the region as being very poor with the exception of Lagos and Ekiti states.

China pledges 6.7billion dollars to Nigerian agriculture

The People’s Republic of China through its office has restated its promise to help develop the Nigerian Agriculture. The commitment was made   during the recently held China-Nigeria Agricultural Modernization Cooperation Forum 2017, held in Abuja.
