2025 Budget: No agric research funding, only 30% soon to release

All Agricultural research institutes in Nigeria may have suffered great setback as Federal Government (FG) is planning to release only 30% of the capital budget to all the institutes while the rest seventy percent will be deferred till 2026.

Food Farm News investigation on research development for 2025 revealed that all the Agricultural institutes have not received a dime for the year 2025 just as a memo from the budget and planning ministry has indicated that only 30% of the capital projects are to be soon released for all the FG's Ministries, Departments and Agencies ( MDAs) why the rest is deferred till next year.

This FG action according to a source who did not want to be mentioned was a direct short change to food security in terms of improved technology that required persistent development without delay saying what can only 30% capital funding do to research development in view of the renewed hope agenda of the president on the sector

Our findings confirmed the regular payment of salaries of personnel and other overhead with 100% performance,  but leaving no single dime being released for research development that falls under capital budget.

Many posited that research related to food security should be separated from the capital budget because of its nature peculiarity, adding that special priority be given to meet the nip of time to food development
