Agric Minister emphasizes capacity for extension workers

The Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Mohammad Mahmood Abubakar has said giving capacity to agricultural extension officers at the grassroots would give a galvanized food security to our nation.

Dr. Abubakar said this yesterday in a press release made available by the ministry after a workshop held in Nazarawa state by a constituted extension committee headed by Prof. Sani Miko.



Agric Minister stated that the Agricultural Extension Development Committee ( NAEDC) was a veritable tool to interact, clarify and amplify some of the on- going policy objectives of the present administration in the extension services sub sector, adding they had been already mandated to achieve coordination of the Nigeria Agricultural Extension System towards a sustainable food security.

He urged the Stakeholders to review the progress on the legislation of the Draft National Agricultural Extension Policy, provide solutions to identify logjams and do unbiased investigation of the major factors that had hampered the effective performance of Agricultural Development Programme (APD) in the sector development.

 

The statement also had the Executive Governor of Nassrawa State , Engr. Abdullahi Sule saying his  state has left no stone unturned in ensuring that the policies of the Federal Government on agricultural are well   implemented to alleviate poverty.


Also the Nasarawa state Agric commissioner , Mr. Ibrahim Oshafu in the press release pointed out that Government of Nassarawa state has made agriculture its priority towards achieving food and nutrition security.
