AFAN wants Minister Call to order

Mudi condemns Ibrahim’s.....

The Apex body of smallholders’ farmers’ organization under the leadership of Architect Kabir Ibrahim has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to prevail on Agric Minister to take food security matters more seriously than meddling in the internal affairs of the Association by giving support to an illegal committee against the well constituted executives by election.

This was contained in an open letter sent to Mr. President so as to call Alhaji Sabo Nanono to order against disorganizing the peace of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN).

AFAN executives in the letter alleged Alhaji Nanono of trying to damage the peaceful structure of the association by trying to promote fragmentation by supporting a group of people who are not legally elected by the association, adding that his members would not hesitate taking to legal action against the minister.

They frown at the appointment of the leader of this illegal group by the minister into the membership of the COVID 19 national taskforce that are mandated to monitor and ensure uninterrupted movement of Agricultural produce and other agro allied across the country by any security agency.

It was stated that ‘’ the elected leadership of the AFAN is against this interference and will not hesitate to pursue legal action to redress this after the covid-19 pandemic’’, and thereby called on President Buhari to draw the attention of Honourable Minister of Agriculture (HMA) to facing his responsibility of ensuring food security to checkmate post Covid 19 pandemic effects on Nigeria people.

Meanwhile, the AFAN group led by Mallam Farouq  Rabiu Mudi has described the position of Architect Ibrahim  over FMARD N13 billion intervention fund said to be spent on  fighting locust, quelea and pest without appropriation in the 2020 budget as being an antagonist to Agricultural development, saying that they regretted having him as ex-president.

Mudi said this in statement tilled ‘’AFAN debunks Kabiru’s allegations on N13b pest control fund, described him as ‘ visual discernment impaired’ saying that the FMARD would make use of the fund to purchase ‘’  new equipment, refurbishing existing ones, procurement of chemical, deployment of personnel to the field as well as engaging local farmers to inform them on early detection of pest outbreak, provision of immediate support to farmers and investing in the medium term recovery of agriculture and livestock production system and rural livelihood in affected areas’’

He alleged Ibrahim of working hard to obstruct the effort of the Federal Government and at the same time trying to corrode the image of farmers in the eyes of the world.

It will be recalled that AFAN president, Architect Ibrahim had expressed his stance on the proposed N13 billion naira by the FG through the FMARD for 12 states in the federation as being baseless when the farmers in question cannot even get to the farms due to insecurity coupled with the fact that the money in question was not in 2020 appropriated budget by the National Assembly.
