Nigeria, others commend SARDC-SC , AFDB, demand sustainability

Nigeria yesterday 27th, 2017 played host to other African countries participating in the wheat production under the Support to Agricultural Research for Development of Strategic Crops (SARD-SC) towards checkmating import bill of over 50 billion dollar annually with Nigeria spending 4 billion as stakeholders commended the project and advised for its sustainability that would withstand competitiveness in the global market.

The SARD-SC project funded by African Development Bank (AFDB) with 6 billion dollar attracted bigwig from the public and private sectors as they all agreed that the innovative platform of the programme has positively impacted in the transfer of improved technologies to farmers and other stakeholders at the value chains of the produce in all the participating countries with remarkable increase yield with quality of millers’ demand.

Present at the opening ceremony yesterday included the Governor of Kebbi State, Sen. Abubarka Atiku Bagudu, former Governor, Gombe state, Alhaji Sani Tuaraki, AFDB representative, Dr. OjukwuChiji, Hon. Committee Chairman, Colleges of Agriculture, Hon. Linus Okorie, Chairman House committee on Agriculture, Hon. Mongunu, Hon, Bello Yakubu, Chairman, flour Millers Association Nigeria, Nino Ozara, National Assembly Hon. Munir Babba Danagundi, ED IAR, Prof. Abubakar, National President Wheat farmers, Alh Salim Saleh Nuhd, Agric Minister representative, Mr. Azeez, IITA representative, Dr. Chris Akeem, Sudan, Dr. IzzatThair, Ethiopia, Dr. TolessaDebele, Tanzania, Dr. Jerry Ngailo, Zimbabwe Dr. Dumisani Kutiwayo, Mali, Dr. Oumarou Goita, Niger, Dr. Salami Issouffou, Coordinator SARD-SC  Dr. Solomon Assefa and ED LCRI, Dr. O.G Olabanji among others. 


  Also the following farmers and seed community producers are rewarded for exemplary performance to adherent to innovative training of best agronomic practice of farming and seed production. Among are Alh. Jabiu Mohammed, Alh.Abdullahi Saidu Argungu, Alh.Dalha Ali Dawaki, The Emir of Dukku, Gombe state Alh. Abdulkadir Haruna Rashid, Malama Kyauta Alhaji, and Haj. Salamatu Ganuwar Kuka.

As the meeting continues today 28th, it is expected among other things that the plenary session will be looking at “wheat agricultural innovation platform: Achievement, experiences and lesion in target countries of Zambia, Kenya, Eritrea, Mauritania and Lesotho.
