President Buhari signs NASC Bill

 *  AGRA gives NASC, two others $ 2million
Finally,  President Mohammadu Buhari has  signed into law the National Agricultural Seed Council bill presented before him by the eight assembly just as the council along with Premier seeds and Value seeds companies were among those that would benefit in the $ 2 million quality early generation seeds project of Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA).

The signing of the long awaited bill into law was said to have been signed by the President since June 24th, and has since been sent back to National Assembly according to a source that spoke with us on the matter.

This new act  would make the NASC to be more proactive towards ensuring circulation of quality seeds to farmers thereby enhancing food security as stiff penalty now awaits offenders of fake seeds.

Meanwhile, the Country Director, AGRA Mr. Kehinde Makinde has said the fund support is to enhance quality of early generation seeds for farmers across the country saying that AGRA would be providing two million dollars for NASC and two other seed companies to achieve the quality seeds production for farmers.

Makinde said that AGRA’s aims and objective was to boost quality of early generation seeds for farmers, stressed the support to these companies and NASC would improve income, food security situation in the country and enhance a better regulation of seed companies.
