Challenges and Opportunities. Leaders in global food sovereignty will gather for a conversation about the challenges and opportunities in implementing agroecology—an approach to sustainable agriculture that looks at farming from scientific, practical, and social perspectives—across the globe.
The panel brings together experts, researchers, and activists from around the world whose work addresses food sovereignty and farmer empowerment. Adam Diamond of the School of International Service at American University, whose research focuses on local food system development, will moderate the panel.
Panelists include two Professorial Lecturers from American University: Marion Dixon, whose work looks at avenues for food system change through agriculture in North Africa and Dr. Scott Freeman, an environmental anthropologist focused on international aid in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
The panel also welcomes Steve Brescia, Executive Director of Groundswell International alongside global leaders Ross Mary Borja, Executive Director of the EkoRural, an organization in Ecuador focused on teaching leadership skills in rural communities, and Bernard Guri, the founder and Executive Director of the Center For Indigenous Knowledge and Organizational Development in Ghana, where he has been active in projects focused on sustainable agriculture and food sovereignty in the region.
