Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong |
The Plateau State Government has approved the recruitment of 400
Agric Extension workers. This was disclosed by the Programmes Manager,
Plateau Agricultural Development Programme (PADP), Mr. Philip Gonap,
during an interview in Jos.
Adding that, “Farmers will be able to get the needed
education on modern farming skills. Before now, farmers in the rural
areas don’t get to have the required education on modern farming
techniques because there were not enough extension workers on ground.
So, this will boost the capacity of the field officer to enhance the
dissemination of recommended agricultural technologies across the
state”.
Gonap said that the recruitment would solve the problem of
inadequacy of extension workers in the state. He also noted that with
the huge number of agricultural extension workers coming on board,
agricultural activities in the state will increase in no time.
He further clarified that those to be engaged would be purely
professionals and they would be used directly to inculcate the skills of
modern farming in farmers at various communities in the state.
The PADP Programmes Manager commended the State Governor for his
determination and support towards boosting agricultural activities in
the state, noting that Plateau State would soon be the hub of
agriculture in Nigeria.
