Farmers call on AfDB, FMARD to support NASC

The National president, All Farmers’ Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Architect Kabir Ibrahim has called on African Development Bank (AfDB) and Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) to assist the National Agricultural Seeds Council so as to be able to achieve its mandate in ensuring quality seeds supply for agricultural food production to food security. Ibrahim stated this in a release made available us.

He said that the support of both AfDB and FMARD would make NASC more effective and more efficient in its mandate of ensuring quality seeds circulation in Nigeria and entire Africa towards food security saying that the evolution of a healthy and efficacious Nigerian seed system would have a ripple effect on the entire African food sufficiency.

AFAN leader however stressed that the NASC should be supported and fully funded by the government in order to be able to play its role effectively; adding that the notion it did not require funding being peddled around showed a lack of firm grasp of the real issue around the evolution of a veritable seed system.
