Support More Farmers-Okopi tells FG

The Federal Government has been called upon to support the activities of farmers in the country. This will in turn improve the quality of food production and end importation.

This call was made by the Chief Executive Officer of Rizek Farms Limited, Solomon Okopi while guesting on the popular Sunrise Show on Channels Television on Thursday.

“The government must ensure that the farmers in the country are adequately supported to ensure the best output. I know of a friend in a country who informed me of how his government supported him despite the loss he recorded while farming. This barely happens here in this part of the world.

Okopi who was speaking on the theme: “Ending importation of staple foods,” expressed confidence in the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh.

“The current minister is an experienced farmer. He has been in the business before he became the minister and I know how well he succeeded. I’m sure he will not stop now that he is the minister. The need to engage the youth in this process is necessary,” he said.

According to the czar of Rizek Farms Limited, there are food wastages which can be curbed adequately. “While travelling along the expressway, you come across crops which are just spread on the floor. This is not good. The best ways to engage the farmers to avoid continuous wastage must be adopted,” he advised.
