NADF to fund Agric research institutes against aging infrastructure

The Executive Secretary ( ES), National Agricutural Development Fund ( NADF) Muhammad Ibrahim has said that the present deplorable conditions of the sector's research institutes would be well supported with funds to ensure performance.

Ibrahim who was represented by Ernest Ihedigo, the General Manager, technical operations made this promise recently at a meeting in Abuja where he said that NADF is coming at a time when our research institutes are being confronted with dilapidated infrastructure due to lack of proper funding with limited performance to enhance food security.

He said that the fund to these institutes would be made available to upgrade facilities, acquire modern equipment and fund research projects for sustainable agricultural practices with climate resilience to increase food productivity.

According to him " NADF 's intervention comes at a time when many research institutes are grappling with aging infrastructure, limited resources and the inability to attract and retain skilled researchers. These challenges have hindered the growth and impact of Agricutural research, which is vital for improving productivity and addressing the growing demands of Nigeria's fast growing population "

He added " This funding will not only support the development of new technologies and practices but will also strengthen collaboration between research institutions, universities, and the private sector"

  1. It is one thing to have the fund, it is another thing to spend it well because it is not always for lack of fund that the infrastructure go decrepit, but for absence of jidicious spending. So, this time let there be monitoring and evaluation.
