Agric Show portends food increase, says NAFN chairman

The chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT) National Agricultural Foundation of Nigeria ( NAFN) Architect Kabir Ibrahim has said the convergence of farmers and other stakeholders at the up coming Nigerian Agric Show will bring about  increase in food production.

Architect Kabir Ibrahim said this yesterday in Abuja at the press briefing in preparation for the up coming event adding that farmers would interface with government officials in matters concerning them as regards policies formation.

Ibrahim who doubled as farmers' president said the show is an avenue for other Nigerians to join in the celebration of small scale farmers who are actually the food producers in Nigeria.

He asked Nigerians to join the real food producers of this country across the states of the federation to celebrate just like the way people voluntarily visited the London Agric show for more knowledge acquisition and farmers' encouragement.

Responding to questions on what the show would bring into rescuing food inflation, Ibrahim said  that is why the theme of the Agric show is "tagged" towards realization of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu renewed hope on food security.

Stressed further that was why Tinubu' s physical present at the show would amount to encouraging farmers to do more in food production.

He stressed the need for government assistance to real farmers with improved inputs of seeds,fertilizers and other simple tools that can remove drudgery towards increase in productivity as they are also embattled with low purchasing power in the market.

NAFN BOT chairman acknowledged that Agriculture must be seen in light of private business just as the Government also must be ready to provide proactive policies to guide the sector, pointing that insecurity is seriously contending with food security and gap in technologies to farmers.

 

Architect Ibrahim corrected the wrong impression being peddled against Genetically Modified Organism saying he has not found any connection between the technology and disease in the country.

He added that AFAN would partner with Research institutes and other organizations to ensure improved inputs and other simple tools get to farmers.
