The draft copy of the Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP) was today presented to other stakeholders across all the sectors of the country’s economy for inputs before the final release for national use in February next month by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet). This stakeholders meeting under the auspices of NiMet was held today at Abuja.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director- General/ CEO, NiMet, Prof. Mansur Bako Matazu said a mutual partnership with other stakeholders would enhance a more robust climate change prediction contents for the year 2022 towards more economic earnings in all sectors of the economy adding this is a practice being promoted by both NiMet and World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
Prof. Matazu
expressed for a better 2022 SCP product being drawn from the strength and
wealth of experiences of various participants to producing informed contents
for all the entire socio-economy of the nation, saying
that ‘’ the objective of the partnership with stakeholders is to engage them in
their roles in the co production of the SCP for effective understanding and
efficient utilization of the product’’
Also, the
Coordinator of SCP cum General Manger (GM) AGROMET, Mr. Huruna Zakari said the
purpose of the meeting is to present the 2022 draft forecast for critical
contributions and unbiased debate on the socio-economic implication of it in
order to take more informed decision for the year in ‘’agriculture, health,
construction, defence, oil & gas, disaster risk reduction and management,
education, marine and maritime among others’’ adding that NiMet every year
presents SCP to guide activities in various sectors of the economy.
