Wet season planting: Gov. Tambuwal releases N7.4 Billion to support farmers

Governor Aminu Wazari Tambuwal of Sokoto State has announced the release of N7.4 billion to boost agricultural activities in the ongoing wet season planting for the procurement of inputs and loan facility for exportable crops like sesame seeds.
He revealed this during the flag off sale of fertilizers for the wet season planting in the state at cash and carry basis.

The N7.4 billion is broken down into N3.5 billion for the procurement of fertilizer for farmers at a subsidized rate with free improved seeds for farmers, while the balance of about N4 billion is expected to be given as facility for the production of exportable crops with emphasis on sesame seeds.

His Excellency said that agriculture being handled as business would be one of the antidotes to overcome covid 19 pandemic challenges, thereby asking investors to take advantage of the opportunity in the sector to move food production from present subsistence level to agric business level.

He promised to encourage huge production of sesame seeds for export among others saying that ‘’ we will commence on cultivation of massive sesame seeds in the current wet season. In this arrangement there will be market for all the seeds produce in the state by farmers with better price.
