Interior minister orders farmers' back to farm

Despite the directives of the Federal Government (FG) for everyone to remain at home pending the fast spreading  novel Covid-19 is curbed across the country, the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola has ordered farmers back to their farms.


This was disclosed by the Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola during the press conference held with pressmen last week in Abuja.

He said farmers do not need to sit back at home doing nothing, while eating all that has being reserved, saying it was high time farmers return to farm as the 'sit down home' directives of the Federal government has nothing to do with farmer's who are the major producers of food.

Aregbesola pointed that farmers need to produce more food that would sustain the country during this pandemic period and after as only food sufficiency will keep the country going.

Some stakeholders who had watched the live televise press conference had asked if the virus was not capable of infecting the farmers, just as they mentioned the coronavirus had also killed doctors and other healthcare workers that are meant to take care of infected persons.

Farmers in different locations have demanded for exclusion on the restriction list like the food processors so as to take advantages of rainy season that is fast approaching for crops planting, adding that FG is currently looking into the Covid-19 issues, while less attention is given to Agriculture.

Some of the farmers added that the country might experience a short fall in food production for the year if strategic plans are not put in place.
