World Bank Task team leader of Fadama 111-AF, Dr. Adetunji Oredipe |
The constant supervision mission component of the programme
has impacted positively on the project delivery, by way of identifying
challenges and ability to proffer quick- win
solutions towards achieving its mandate with evidence in all the states
in terms of bumper harvesting at all levels.
In his comments in one of the mission meetings, the World
Bank Task team leader of Fadama 111-AF, Dr. Adetunji Oredipe emphasized that “
the MTR of Fadama 111 AF activity was an opportunity to critically analyse some
identified challenges during the World Bank’s mission to the states” adding
that “ the Implementation support mission gave the World Bank Team, the
National Fadama Coordination Office and officials of the Federal Ministry of
Agriculture an opportunity to assess the level of farmers’ activities on the
field and the ability to recommend ways to attaining better yield in
productions.
The objective of Fadama 111 AF is to ramp up production in
specific agricultural commodities which include, rice, sorghum cassava and
tomato. We have to assess the level of progress in the effort to achieve the
target that had been set under the project. So far we have received good stories
from farmers in all the participating States, particularly in the FCT, Niger,
Ogun and Ebonyi states, and according to what we supervised, there are lots of
improvement in terms of production and packaging”
The testimonies from many of the States are in consonance
with the aims and objectives of the supervision mission as it has put the State’s offices on their toes towards
ensuring Fadama 111 project mandate result with evidence coming from some of
the commissioners of agriculture from the states.
Anambra state commissioner, Afam Mbanefo said that his state
government has embraced the programme in the cultivation of rice, cassava and
maize through the cluster Fadama groups as the Governor has fully embraced the
project by fulfilling the states’ counterpart financing commitment to make the
project sustainable for the farmers’ benefit.
The Kano State Project Coordinator, Shuaibu Suleiman and his
Osun state counterpart, Dr. GaniyuAdebowaleAdedeji had both agreed that the
project was impacting positively on the farmers in their states as they were
being trained in the use of improved farming practices, among others.
