PRESS RELEASE: NiMet/NIHSA Poised to Strengthen Synergy

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet and Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, NIHSA are poised to strengthen and deepen the already existing relationship between the two government organizations.

This decision was reached during a courtesy visit by the Director-General of NIHSA, Mr. Moses Beckley to the Director-General/CEO, NiMet, Dr. Anthony Anuforom, at NiMet's corporate headquarters, Abuja.

Mr. Beckley who thanked the DG, NiMet for the opportunity granted NIHSA, highlighted the ''twin-like'' relationship that exists between the two agencies, stressing the need to deepen the existing synergy, which is geared towards delivering better services to Nigerians in the aspects of weather and hydrology.

In welcoming the NIHSA delegation led by the DG, NIHSA, the DG/CEO, NiMet, Dr. Anthony Anuforom, while reiterating the importance of the synergy, noted that hydrological services is susceptible to weather  and expressed the desire for a more ''structured and formalised'' relationship unlike the previous  collaborations between the two agencies, which were always in ad-hoc capacities.

Anuforom therefore called for the resuscitation of last year's Federal Government's tripartite committee on Flood Monitoring and Management and the drafting of a formal MoU by the two agencies aimed at fashioning out possible areas of collaborations between NiMet and NIHSA.

It would be recalled that last year following a directive from the National Intelligence Agency, NiMet inaugurated the tripartite committee comprising NiMet, NiHSA and NEMA.
