2024 Cropping/ REFILS raise issues on funding, irrigation, best agronomy of Sunflowers


The recently concluded Northern states Annual Cropping/Research Extension & Farmers Inputs Linkage System ( REFILS) have expressed concerns over research inadequacy funding with a huge gap between improved technologies and the end users, just as need for more irrigated farm lands, climate smart agricultural with intensification of best agronomics practice for crops like sunflowers were among the major points of discussion at the Institute of Agricultural Research ( IAR), Samara, Zaria.

Premier Seeds MD appeals against CBN monetary policy, says will affect farmers




One of the strongest seeds producing companies in Nigeria and Africa Managing Director (MD) Dr. Ibitoye Oyewole has called on the country's Apex Bank to be very considerate of inflationary effects its Monetary Policy Rate ( MPR) on commercial banks saying the negative effect will bounce back on farmers in terms of increase in improved seeds prices.

The Chapter three of the 2024 Seasonal Climate Prediction ( SCP) for some key economic sectors has called on the crops farmers to take cognizance of the following underlisted advice in order to avert huge losses in crops production for running year.

The advisory committee of the National Meteorological Agency ( NiMet) on Seasonal Climate Prediction ( SCP) led by Director General ( DG) Prof. Charles Anosike has advised farmers majorly on livestock production to take proactive steps against economic losses on  day and night temperatures that is warmer than normal.

FG steps to check round tripping of maize, rice, cassava

Having identified round tripping as one major challenge in the 2023 dry season wheat planting through the National Agricutural Growth Scheme -Agro Pocket ( NAGS-AP) program, the Federal Government (FG) through the national and states working committees has decided to take the following underlisted steps to ensuring better inputs delivery for maize, rice and cassava.
