The workshop, which was organized
by Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), as part of
the support by UNDP and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, brought together 246
key stakeholders from Farmers’ groups, FMARD, other relevant Ministries,
Departments and Agencies (MDAs), State Ministries of Agriculture, Development
Partners, Association of Deans of Faculties/Colleges of Agriculture in Nigerian
Universities, Agricultural Research Institutes, Private Sector/Nigerian
Agri-Business Group (NABG), Civil Society Organizations (CSO), Community Based
Organizations (CBOs), women and youths and experts on Knowledge Management
(KM).

Brazil's five banana varieties

The Fava group is Brazil's largest distributor of bananas at domestic level. With 43 ripening rooms and a volume of 950 tonnes per week, it supplies the largest supermarket chains in the country. "We have bananas all year round, because Brazil is a very large tropical country and bananas are grown in nearly every state," affirms Sandro Cypriani, of Fava.

Farmers in Ondo state have protested against the
activities of marauding Fulani herdsmen in the state, as collosal losses
of agricultural produce are mounting after the invasion of farms in
Ondo by Fulani herdsmen and their cattle.
