AFAN imbroglio: Concerned members ask for election, disown ‘president’ Mudi

Members of All Farmers’ Association of Nigeria (AFAN) from all the six geo-political zones of the country have asked the president, Architect Ibrahim Kabir and his executive members to conduct national election on or before the January 15, 2021 just as they demanded that Farouk faction should step down and subsume into the subsisting leadership of Ibrahim. This was the outcome of the decisions taken at a meeting held yesterday in Abuja.

The spokesman of the ‘concerned’ members, Dr. Tunde Arosanyi said that the decision for new election has become imperative in order to save the Association from both local and international embarrassments of having two parallel AFAN, saying that the members could not fold hands and allow the association capsized.

Arosanyi said that members had dissociated themselves from the leadership of Mallam Farouk Rabi’u Mudi as AFAN president, saying he was not elected with regards to the Association’s constitution, and was accordingly advised to dissolve into Architect Ibrahim led assemblage which had been mandated to conduct a new election on or before January 15 of next year since his tenure with other executives had since expired.

He said: ”we have disowned Farouk as legal president of AFAN because his acclaimed emergence is at variance with AFAN’s constitution. We advised them to subsume into main body under Architect Kabir Ibrahim led executive.

The member also observed that the tenure of Ibrahim and his Executives had expired, and now that election at states level had been concluded and the issue of covid 19 had also subsided, then it is expedient of his leadership to organize and conduct a national election on or before the January15, 2021. The election is open to any of the two parties deemed eligible to contest for free and fair election’’

The spokesman went further to say that a two-man committee had been asked to interface  with AFAN president as well with members of the Board of Trustee (BOT) chaired by Admiral Murtala Nyako on the decisions taken,  saying that “ the meeting has set up a two-man committee to communicate these decision to Architect Ibrahim and also to interface with the BOT members namely Nyako, the chairman, Dr. Shettima Mustapha and Senator Abdullahi Adamu all of whom are respected personalities in Nigeria as they have played pivotal role at one time or the other in the development of the association and Nigeria’s agriculture.’’

Arosanyin stressed further that all litigations in the court should be withdrawn for easy internal resolution.
