Democracy day: Insecurity mars FG investment in Agric


 A lecturer at the University of Benin, Professor Eddy Erhagbe has said that the billions of naira the Federal Government (FG) expended on agriculture in the last twenty-three years of democracy may have been hampered by the spate of incessant killings and attacks of rural farmers by hoodlums and bandits. Prof. Eddy Erhagbe stated this yesterday during a program ‘’ Good Morning Nigeria’’ on the National Television Authority (NTA) when responding to question on 23 years of democracy in the country.

AFAN Tussles: Minister, public told case still in court

The Minister of Agriculture, and the general public have been notified not to recognize any group or transact business pending the final pronouncement of the Federal Court of Appeal on the matter of leadership between the Architect Kabir Ibrahim led factions of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), and Faruk Rabiu Mudi who had officially been adjudged as substantive president by Justice Taiwo Taiwo of Federal High Court.

The office of the Vice President (VP), Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has expressed disappointment over the prolonged payment to the thirty-five thousand youth enumerators that had registered and captured farmers’ data across the states of the federation, even after the Economic Financial Corruption Commission ( EFCC) investigations had found no sharp practices against the exercise.

Over 1m farmers get direct N5.2b fertilizer subsidy, says Pres. Buhari’s Aide


The Senior Special Adviser (SSA) to President Mohammadu Buhari on food security matters, Dr. Andrew Kwasari has said that over one million farmers in all the thirty-seven states of the federation, FCT inclusive benefitted in the last year wet season inputs subsidy, totaling Five billion, One hundred and Ninety-one million, Five hundred and thirty thousand, Seven Hundred and Thirty Naira (N5, 191,530, 730), paid directly into their accounts to checkmate the usual fertilizer corruption through government procurement.

The Minister, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) Dr. Mohammad  Abubakar Abubakar has advised Nigerians against eating bush meat  to avoid being infected by monkey-pox disease, that is currently in Europe and America.

FMARD clears air on collaboration with land development agency


The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) has said the ministry has no collaboration with the National Land Development Agency (NALDA), saying every move to ensure synergize is always turned down. FMARD Permanent Secretary (PS), Dr. Ernest Umakhihe disclosed this to the visiting participants at course Number 44 (2022), National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS)
 at Abuja.

80 agro input shops soon to be sold by FG

In a bid to ensure agro-inputs are being sold to farmers at the grassroots, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) is putting final touches on its plan to sell all the one-stop-shop agro-inputs built across the states of the federation. Foodfarmnews authoritatively gathered that about eighty agro-inputs centres the Federal Government (FG) built across the country to ensure that rural farmers get the right agro-inputs at a very close range with the guarantee of non-adulteration will soon be put for sale to private operators, and the advert will soon be placed on the national dailies.

Yam farmers hail FG for grant, advocates use of scale to sell

The National President, Yam Farmers, Processors and Exporters Association, Prof. Simon Irtwange has commended the Federal Government (FG) for giving them millions out of the N50 billion export expansion grant just as he wanted the use of weighing scale to sell yams in all market places. Prof. Irtwange said this during an interview with Foodfarmnews at Abuja recently.
