Expert disagrees with FAO, says Nigeria needs mechanization, not palliatives


An agricultural expert, Engineer Olagbaju Akeju has described as a wrong step the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)’s culture of concentrating only on giving inputs to farmers rather than helping with mechanization of the sector towards commercialization and upgrading of subsistence to medium and large scale farmers.

AFAN boss raises alarm on food supply situation



The National President, All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Arc Kabir Ibrahim, has raised the alarm on the food supply situation in the country calling on the federal government to take proactive actions to mitigate the impending disaster. This was contained in a press release made available to FoodFarmNews by the farmers’ boss in Abuja.

The Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji Sabo Nanono has said there was enough food in the country but the Governor of Plateau State, Mr. Bako Lalong and the National Coordinator, Zero Hunger farmers, Dr. Arosanyin disagreed saying insecurity in the North and supply gap being created by market demand are adversely affecting the supply. These positions were taken during the live NTA telecast, Good morning Nigeria based on food security, anchored by Kingley Osadolor and Clare Adelabu recently.

Buhari insists on competitive food importation

President Mohammadu Buhari has directed food importers to use their money, directing the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) not to give any official exchange rate to anybody at the expense of local production. President Buhari stated this in press release issued by his Senior Special Assistant on media and publicity, Shehu Garba after the National Food Security Meeting held in Villa.

Farmers call on AfDB, FMARD to support NASC

The National president, All Farmers’ Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Architect Kabir Ibrahim has called on African Development Bank (AfDB) and Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) to assist the National Agricultural Seeds Council so as to be able to achieve its mandate in ensuring quality seeds supply for agricultural food production to food security.
